Overview
The Kingdom of Nordstead (conventionally referred to in short as Nordstead) is an independent micronation founded in June 2017, with territory of its own in the southern US, but has never been recognized by any other existing sovereign state.
Nordstead’s focus is to create the framework for its citizens to work among themselves to create a space with less emphasis on acquiring monetary goods and more on the creation of intrinsic value. This nation and it’s philosophy focuses on personal happiness through consuming less and creating things of practical value, establishing and nurturing relationships with others, consuming quality goods and nourishment, living with nature, and expanding one’s knowledge and abilities.
Leadership
Organized as a form of democracy known as “natural democracy” with various elected offices and oversight of a Baron, the Kingdom encourages independence and self-reliance to better the good of the community. Each citizen is given the opportunity to vote for their elected members and expected to contribute to the democratic process.
With the select group of High Court members, it’s citizens claim sovereignty over disconnected territory, including over half an acre in the southern US state of Florida. With goals of expanding north, The Kingdom of Nordstead plans to settle its first large-scale territory where the court members will reside and govern.
Settlership
Individuals born in Nordstead are considered naturalized settlers. Those not born within the nation’s borders can become a settler by applying for settlership, passing the Knowledge Test and thus pledging their loyalty to The Kingdom. The application and Knowledge Test are both designed to review the applicant’s background, ability to contribute to the nation and overall intention for becoming a Nordstead settler.
Services
All schooling and education of minors will be up to the parents and/or guardians. Settlers are encouraged to engage minors with real-world knowledge, as well as traditional home-schooling techniques.
Healthcare services are to be rendered under the guidance of the Chief Health Advisor. The services will be provided at their discretion, but will be provided to all settlers equally without discrimination.
Any new structures built within the nation, must be approved by the High Court. Once approved, all supplies, labor and resources for the construction of the structure will be at the building party’s expense.
Public spaces are to be maintained by a group effort, including all settlers of the nation. This includes parks, gardens, structures, paths and waterways.
